Dear LHD Partners and Immunizing Providers,
On Tuesday May 27, 2025, a social media announcement was released regarding the Health and Human Service (HHS) director’s guidance to change COVID-19 vaccine recommendations for healthy children and pregnant persons.
On May 29, 2025, ACIP-approved immunization schedules were updated to reflect this announcement regarding COVID-19 vaccine recommendations for these two specific patient populations. The updates include:
- The Child and Adolescent Immunization Schedule now reflects shared clinical decision making for all children and adolescents aged 6 months – 17 years, including those who are moderately or severely immunocompromised.
- For both the Adult and Child and Adolescent Immunization Schedules, pregnancy is now shaded gray to reflect no guidance/recommendation.
Please find the updated HTML pages and PDFs below. MDHHS encourages all vaccinating providers to review the Notes section carefully for full details on these changes.

If they so choose, VFC-eligible children will be allowed to obtain vaccine after a shared clinical decision with their health care provider.
Additionally, MDHHS Division of Immunization is seeking guidance from our Medicaid partners regarding this announcement and its effect on provider reimbursement for COVID-19 vaccine as a covered benefit for healthy children and pregnant persons.
MDHHS understands the concern surrounding this announcement and we remain committed to providing timely updates on this matter. We appreciate our immunizing partners and their commitment to reducing the incidence of vaccine preventable diseases for our Michigan residents.
Thank you, MDHHS Division of immunization
