Nominations for the 2024 Veteran of the Year Award are now being accepted. Each year, the Macomb County Board of Commissioners recognizes a veteran who has made a significant impact on Macomb County’s veteran community. Starting in 2019 with its namesake, veteran Pat Daniels, the Board has had the privilege to grant this award and bring community awareness to the County’s veteran population each year.
Nominations for the 2024 award are open through October 18th. To nominate a veteran, click the button below and fill out the nomination form. For questions contact us at bocadmin@macombgov.org or 586-469-5125.

At the end of September, Board Chair Don Brown and Commissioners Sarah Lucido, Antoinette Wallace, Sylvia Grot, Michelle Nard and Don VanSyckel attended the Michigan Association of Counties (MAC) Annual Conference. Also during the conference, elections were made to the MAC Board of Directors. The Board of Commissioners is excited to announce that Commissioner Antoinette Wallace was elected 1st Vice-President and Commissioner Sarah Lucido was re-elected as the Region 5 representative.
The County Executive will present the 2025 Recommended Budget at the BOC’s Finance/Audit/Budget Committee meeting on Wednesday October 9th at 3 p.m. As the legislative branch, it is the Board’s duty to thoroughly review the proposal and adopt a balanced budget that ensures the needs of County residents and employees are met through services, programming and fiscally responsible actions. Commissioners will analyze each department’s budget at an upcoming public meeting and use that information as they consider amendments and adoption of the FY 2025 budget. The BOC is committed to protecting taxpayer dollars and ensuring they are allocated efficiently and where needed.

Student Government Day
Student Government Day is a special event that provides our community's youth with the opportunity to experience the purpose and mechanics of county-level government first-hand. Through this hands-on experience, students can become more informed and involved citizens and voters. Participating students write an essay on a different topic each year and the winning essay chosen by the Board is awarded a scholarship.
The essay topic and application period will be announced soon. Learn more at bocmacomb.org.
