Good afternoon,
I don’t think I have to tell you that the last week has been an incredible whirlwind of big news stories. Beginning with Friday’s ruling from the Michigan Supreme Court that ruled on the constitutionality of a 1945 act to the mind blowing plot intercepted by the FBI to kidnap our governor.
First, let me just say that I am grateful to the public safety professionals who thwarted this twisted plan and preserved the safety of the governor and other public officials who are said to have been targeted.
Moving forward, there will still be much confusion as to how the prior executive orders will be addressed. That aside, I want to make it perfectly clear that Macomb County has - and will continue - to follow the best advice of public health officials at the local, state and federal level. We encourage the public to do the same.
In the other news, I am very proud to announce that Macomb County just launched a new, first of its kind, program to help senior citizens who have difficulty going out to get groceries and other necessities. Just launched by our Department of Senior Services, Macomb County is partnering with Shipt to provide free delivery service for a year to anyone over the age of 60.
Shipt provides same-day delivery from select local stores via a community of reliable shoppers. Members are able to order groceries and other items through the Shipt app or website using a smartphone or computer. And, we have staff standing by to help our seniors navigate the technology if needed. More details in the video below and on our website at macombgov.org.
(Hint-hint! If you know someone under the age of 60 who isn't eligible for our free offering, a one-year membership to Shipt or another delivery service is a great gift option this holiday season!).
As always, please do your part to help prevent the spread of coronavirus. If you are sick, stay home and seek help if your condition warrants. Wear a mask when mingling with others from outside of your household and avoid large gatherings - inside or out. And don’t forget to wash those hands!
Wishing you wellness,
Mark
