Good afternoon,
As I’ve said before, Macomb County is working hard to respond to the challenges that our communities face each day. Two new opportunities demonstrate this commitment. For instance, we just launched the Macomb County CARES for Nonprofits Grant Program - a $1.5 million fund for local nonprofits recovering from COVID-19 and the shutdown. We hope that this new opportunity can boost these organizations, as they provide essential support and services that ensure the wellbeing of our residents. To learn more about this grant and how to apply, visit MacombBusiness.com.
Another great Macomb County program kicked off on Monday - the first-ever Manufacturing Week. Every October, our Department of Planning and Economic Development (PED) organizes a Manufacturing Day with tours of local businesses to help young people experience careers in the industry. This year, safety protocols prevented those tours from taking place, but PED developed an innovative solution with a virtual weeklong event. Students, parents and teachers are all invited to register and participate in this digital experience, which features six companies showcasing their facilities through secure Zoom meetings. I’ve heard great things about the program, so if you have a child or family member that’s in middle school or high school, check out the details at macombmfgday.com.
In closing, I’d like to highlight our Make Macomb Your Home website - where you can find fall activities, orchards and other fun things to do in Macomb County. But remember, when visiting any local establishment or taking part in an activity, please follow CDC guidelines. Wash your hands, wear a mask and avoid large gatherings so we can keep COVID-19 at bay.
Thank you, take care and for the latest information regarding COVID-19, visit macombgov.org.

- Today is the deadline to apply for several grant programs offered through Macomb County Planning and Economic Development. If your business was impacted by COVID-19, please find details on how you can receive assistance here. For instance, if your company incurred extra expenses related to PPE and/or technology since March 16, you can apply for the Workplace Safety Grant. Businesses with 500 or less employees may submit PPE and technology receipts/invoices for reimbursement of up to $20,000 (this is not a loan and therefore does not have to be paid back).

- National Recovery Month is held every September as a way to educate Americans about substance use disorders and treatment. Now in its 31st year, the observance also celebrates the gains made by those living in recovery. And even though the month is almost over, the lessons learned from the occasion are important to recognize year-round. Learn why, and how Macomb County Community Mental Health is responding to substance use disorders, in this MMYH blog.
