Application for $8.55 Million in COVID-19 Workplace Safety Grants will close Friday, Aug 7

The Michigan COVID-19 Safety Grant Program aimed at helping protect workers and keep the community safe will soon close. These grants will provide small businesses matching funds of up to $10,000 to decrease the risk of COVID-19 spread through safety and health-related equipment purchased and training in response to COVID-19.

The initial grant application will close Friday, August 7, 2020, with awards given shortly thereafter. 

Examples of how grant funding may be utilized:

• Purchasing engineering controls and other supplies/materials such as sneeze guards, physical barriers, face coverings and hand washing/hygiene stations.
• Purchasing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including gowns, gloves and eye protection.

The Small Business Sustainability Program is offering $10,000 grants for companies with 50+ employees that have been negatively impacted by COVID-19. Applications will be accepted through August 5 at 5:00 p.m.

In response to the economic impact of COVID-19, the State of Michigan has allocated $100 million of CARES Act funding to implement the Michigan Small Business Restart Program to support the needs of Michigan Businesses directly impacted by COVID-19. Of that, Macomb County has received 7.5 Million. Businesses and nonprofits with 50 or fewer employees, worldwide, located in Michigan, who have NOT received a grant under Macomb County Sustainability Program are eligible to apply. Applications will be accepted through August 5, 2020 at 11:59 p.m.

Back-to-Business Kits are also available for local businesses. The kits include a variety of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) as well as other helpful items to enhance and maintain safety standards for employees and customers alike.
