As southeast Michigan continues to reopen and life begins to return to some kind of normal, I want to remind everyone that COVID-19 still exists. We have certainly flattened the curve and case counts have dropped, but there is still a chance for infection. So please, as you venture out to restaurants and retailers, remember to take practical steps for protecting yourself and others. Wear face coverings, wash your hands and social distance as best you can.
Additionally, consider getting tested. Macomb County is now offering residents free testing services for anyone that wishes to sign up. I encourage you to call our Health Department and make an appointment. The test only takes a few minutes, and the results come in fairly quickly. You may wonder why you should get tested now, when infection rates are low. It’s simple - if you know you are positive for COVID-19 you can be treated and take the necessary precautions for reducing further transmission of the virus. This will help us as we continue to re-engage our economy and get people back to work. So let’s remember that we’re still in this together and that our actions can save lives.
Thank you, and as always, take care and be kind to one another.
Mark A. Hackel
Macomb County Executive

- The Macomb County Health Department recently received a donation of 3,800 7.5 oz. bottles of hand sanitizer from the CDC Foundation. The CDC Foundation is an independent entity that works to mobilize philanthropic and private sector resources to support the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s critical health protection work. The hand sanitizer will be used to protect employees and clients of the Health Department from the spread of COVID-19.
