Earlier this week, Governor Whitmer announced plans to lift some of the restrictions around her stay-at-home order. For instance, social gatherings of up to 10 individuals are now allowed. With the long weekend ahead of us, I am certain people will be getting together to catch up and enjoy the nice weather. Knowing this, I am asking all residents to take several precautions - including: keeping your gathering small, meeting outside, staying at least six feet apart, not sharing food or objects, washing or sanitizing hands and wearing a mask, if possible. By following these simple measures, we can ensure the safety of our friends and family, and stay on track for a larger reopening in our community.
On another note, I would like to ask that we all take some time on Monday to observe Memorial Day, an occasion which honors the military men and women who died while serving our country. These individuals put duty before self and gave their lives to protect our freedoms. It is important that we remember their sacrifice. With ongoing restrictions related to COVID-19, Memorial Day 2020 will be different. But there are still ways you can mark the holiday. Learn more in today’s Make Macomb Your Home blog.
Thank you, and as always, take care.
Mark A. Hackel
Macomb County Executive

- This Memorial Day will be different than those in the past. The COVID-19 crisis has put a stop to public gatherings and shut down many parts of society. It’s clear - we will have to make adjustments, but there are still ways we can recognize the occasion. “The means of paying tribute vary from person to person,” says Gary Purcell, president of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 154. “But a moment of silence is available to everyone.” Learn how you can observe the day in today’s MMYH blog.
