Back to School, Back to School

Kids

By this time next week schools across Macomb County will be back in session. In addition to prepping backpacks and lunches, it’s also important to remember a few other things for the school year:

  • In a school zone, stop and yield to pedestrians crossing the crosswalk or intersection — remember, the speed limit is 20 miles per hour
  • Always stop for school crossing guards;
  • Take extra care to look out for students in school zones, near playgrounds and parks, and in all residential areas;
  • If the red lights on a school bus are flashing and the stop arm is extended, traffic must stop to allow students to safely enter and exit. Wait until the lights stop flashing before continuing forward.
  • Watch out for bikers — slow down and leave at least three feet of space when passing.
  • Check side mirrors for approaching bicyclists before opening your door.

Want to share your back-to-school excitement with us? Send us first day pictures at bocadmin@macombgov.org and they will be featured on our social media accounts.

Help Improve Your Parks

HCMA

The Huron-Clinton Metroparks is creating a Recreation Programming Plan and is asking area residents to provide their input on the types of programs that are most valuable as a visitor and participant. The input, which will shape future events and programs, is being received through a survey, which only takes a few minutes to complete.

In November a draft plan will be posted on the Metroparks website, with an additional public comment period.There will also be a public hearing on Dec. 12, 2019 at 1300 High Ridge Road, Brighton.

The survey can be found here.
