Klinefelt Takes the Oath as President

VK3

Commissioner Veronica Klinefelt was sworn in as President of the Michigan Association of Counties (MAC) Board in Traverse City earlier this week, where the annual MAC conference was held.

“It is an honor to serve in this role,” Klinefelt said. “It enables Macomb County to have a strong voice while lobbying in Lansing, something that is very important.”

Klinefelt is the 112th individual to hold the president’s position for MAC, the organization that represents the leaders of Michigan’s 83 counties. In her role she will also be serving as a member of the National Association of Counties board and traveling throughout the state to speak about the MAC platform.

During her opening speech, Klinefelt thanked those in the audience for their service to the public, having veterans stand for a special recognition and also recognizing those who work behind the scenes.

While Klinefelt gave a nod to those in the audience who have dedicated their lives to public service, she too has made a long time commitment to serving others. Klinefelt joined the MAC Board in 2015 and has been an active member since, serving as Vice President last year and actively engaging in updating the by-laws and drafting a strategic plan.  She is currently serving her fourth term on the Macomb County Board of Commissioners, where she represents Eastpointe, St. Clair Shores and areas of Warren and Grosse Pointe Shores. Prior to serving as a Commissioner she served on the East Detroit School Board, the Eastpointe City Council and the Roseville/Eastpointe Recreation Authority.

There were more than 400 county representatives and speakers at the annual conference. Klinefelt was joined by her family, Board Chair Bob Smith, Commissioner Don Brown and Rep. Kevin Hertel.

As a Macomb County Commissioner Veronica Klinefelt is committed to adopting a budget that best serves the needs of residents in the most efficient manner possible, addressing issues facing the Macomb County Jail, with a focus on better screening for mental health uses and substance use disorders, and continuing to learn more about issues facing the County’s aging population. When Klinefelt isn’t serving on the Macomb BOC, and as the Michigan Association of Counties’ president, she can be found spending time with her family, listening to The Eagles and Billy Joel and visiting some of her favorite local spots.
