Library of Michigan Labor Day Closing Announcement

Final Month of Michigan Notable Books Author Tour Programs
August marks the final opportunity to catch 2026 Michigan Notable Books author tour programs this year, offering readers a last chance to engage with outstanding writers who celebrate Michigan’s rich stories and voices. If you haven’t attended an event yet—or want to squeeze in one more—now is the time before the author tour wraps up. To see the August month of tour dates/locations, visit Michigan.gov/NotableBooks, select 2026 Michigan Notable Books Author Tour Schedule, and pick the August tab on the page.
Additionally, the Michigan Notable Books selection committee is reviewing submissions for the 2027 Michigan Notable Books list. Find the guidelines for submission on the How to Contact and Submit Titles to the Michigan Notable Books Program page of the Library of Michigan's website. The earlier the submissions, the better the opportunity for the committee to review a book prior to the final meeting when the 20 titles are selected. All questions about the submission process and anything else connected to the Michigan Notable Books program should go to Michigan-Notable-Books@Michigan.gov or 517-335-1477.

Library of Michigan at the Detroit Festival of Books
Staff from both the Library of Michigan and the Library of Michigan Foundation were out at the Detroit Festival of Books on July 19, connecting with attendees and showcasing the collections and services of the Library of Michigan. Taking place at Detroit's Eastern Market, an estimated 20,000 people attended the event. Several current and previous Michigan Notable Books authors were also at the event, including John Counts (2026), Rob Miller (2026), Cheryl Neely (2026), Frank Uhle (2024), and John Wemlinger (2022).
The 10th Annual Detroit Festival of Books (aka Detroit Bookfest 2027) is scheduled for Sunday, July 18, 2027 at Eastern Market. Learn more about the event by visiting DetroitBookFest.com.
