Cemeteries and headstones contain a wealth of information about ancestors and a location's most prominent citizens, but more research is required beyond the gravesite. Dig into the types of information available at the Library of Michigan when researching cemeteries and unearth best practices for cemetery research.

The Library of Michigan's Law Collection will be closed intermittently due to construction taking place in the Law Library starting on Wednesday, April 10.

Please call ahead prior to visiting the Library of Michigan to confirm the Law Collection is accessible during the time of your visit: 517-335-1480.

2024 Night for Notables

The Library of Michigan and Library of Michigan Foundation celebrated the 2024 Michigan Notable Books (MNB) at the annual Night for Notables event on Saturday, April 20 at the Library of Michigan. The event included a pre-event reception in the Library of Michigan's Rare Book Room followed by a program in the Forum with remarks by Library of Michigan Foundation Chair Brian Hare and State Librarian Randy Riley. Attending 2024 MNB Authors were individually honored, and 2-time Michigan Notable Books honoree Stephen Mack Jones provided the keynote address. An after-glow reception was held in the Library of Michigan's atrium where event attendees could meet with MNB authors.

Michigan Notable Books authors are traveling across Michigan throughout April, May, and June as part of the 2024 Michigan Notable Books Author Tour. 50 locations throughout the state are hosting programs as part of the tour. To find a tour stop near you, go to the Michigan Notable Books website at Michigan.gov/NotableBooks and select the 2024 Michigan Notable Books Author Tour link.

Both host locations and libraries across Michigan are encouraged to take advantage of the downloadable and printable graphics to help promote the author tour and Michigan Notable Books program. 2024 Barbara J. Brown Family History Seminar

The Library of Michigan is collaborating with the Archives of Michigan and Michigan Genealogical Council on the 2024 Barbara J. Brown Family History Seminar on May 10-11, 2024. The two-day event features keynote speaker Ari Wilkins, several session options, and a Friday evening research lock-in at the Archives of Michigan and Library of Michigan.
