 Michigan Legal Self-Help Center Grants
Michigan Legal Help is part of the Michigan Advocacy Program, a legal aid organization that provides access to the justice system for those who need it the most through direct legal help and statewide advocacy. Michigan Legal Help (MLH) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and its funding comes from the Michigan Supreme Court, the Michigan State Bar Foundation, and through grants from the State Bar of Michigan, the Legal Services Corporation, and others.
Earlier in 2023, the State Court Administrative Office (SCAO) announced $500,000 in grant funding to expand legal self-help center services and locations across the state. Legal self-help centers provide services to people who are seeking to solve legal problems through providing legal information, forms, resources, guidance, and referrals. These services and tools help educate and empower self-help center visitors to more effectively advocate for themselves within the legal system.
SCAO is now accepting applications from nonprofit and governmental organizations seeking to expand existing self-help centers or establish new centers in Michigan. #HelpLMFind - Michigan Yearbooks and School News
Accolade, Boomerang, The Boulder, Hematite, The Lantern, Reflector, Said and Done, Stepping Stone. All of these names represent the hundreds of schools across Michigan that produced yearbooks chronicling the experiences of their students. The Library of Michigan actively collecting these publications to develop a comprehensive collection of yearbooks from all the high schools, colleges/universities, and postsecondary institutions (e.g., nursing schools, trades schools) in the state. Equally important is the printed school news produced by the students of these academic institutions. Both yearbooks and school news are invaluable resources for historians, genealogists, educators, and more.

Michigan Genealogical Council Fall Family History Event
The Library of Michigan is joining the Michigan Genealogical Council and the Archives of Michigan in presenting the Fall Family History Event on November 3-4, 2023. Participants can attend both online and in person.
Michael L. Strauss, AG, will be the keynote speaker, featuring presentations on:
- Introduction to Military Genealogy Research
- A House Divided: Research in the Civil War
- Roosevelt’s Tree Army: Researching in the Civilian Conservation Corps
- All in a Day’s Work: Occupational Genealogical Research
Find a complete schedule and registration information on the Michigan Genealogical Society website. Additionally, the Library of Michigan and Archives of Michigan are hosting a Research Lock-in on Friday, November 3 from 5PM to 10PM at the Michigan Library and Historical Center.
Both the Library and Archives will be open from 6PM to 10PM. Pizza and refreshments, provided by the Michigan Genealogical Council, will be available for registrants from 5PM to 6PM. The Lock-in is available to both Fall Family History Event attendees and the general public.
