Come celebrate the 2023 Michigan Notable Books at the Night for Notables reception on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at the Library of Michigan. Headlining the event as keynote speaker is 2-time Michigan Notable Books author (The Marsh King’s Daughter and The Wicked SisterKaren Dionne

Event Schedule
4:30-5:45 p.m. – VIP/Sponsor Pre-event Reception / Rare Book Room
5:45-6:00 p.m. – Gathering in the Library of Michigan Forum
6:00-730 p.m. – Night for Notable Program with Keynote Speaker Karen Dionne
7:30-9:00 p.m. – Afterglow Reception / Book Signing with Authors throughout Library of Michigan

Parking is free in the Library parking lot immediately in front of the building. Suggested attire is business dressy. Light appetizers and beverages will be available during the event. Books from our Michigan Notable authors will be available for purchase that evening in the Michigan History Museum Store.

Join the Historical Society of Greater Lansing and the Library of Michigan on Saturday, April 15 for Marquette-based photographer, collector, and public historian Jack Deo as part of the "By The Yard" lecture series. Jack will discuss the history of photography in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and the notorious stage-coach robber and photographer, Black Bart.

“An Ordinary Man,” A Conversation About President Gerald R. Ford

The Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation in partnership with the Library of Michigan, the Michigan Historical Center, and the Michigan Political History Society, welcomes Richard Norton Smith and Hank Meijer to discuss Gerald Ford, “An Ordinary Man."

What do you know about the 38th president of the United States, Michigan's own Gerald R. Ford?

For a glimpse into Ford's life, from his hard-scrabble childhood to his lifelong love affair with wife Betty to the legacy of his brief presidency, join us for a conversation between two men who knew the man.

  • Richard Norton Smith, a nationally recognized authority on the American presidency. A past director of the Gerald R. Ford Museum and Library, he has just completed the definitive biography of the 38th president "An Ordinary Man: The Surprising Life and Historic Presidency of Gerald R. Ford."
  • Hank Meijer, Vice-Chairman and a Trustee of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation. He and the Meijer family were close friends of President and Mrs. Ford.

Held in the Forum Auditorium, the pair's wide-ranging conversation will be followed by a Q&A and book signing.

There is no charge to attend this event. "An Ordinary Man" will be available for purchase at the Michigan History Museum Store. Find additional details on the Michigan History Center's event page.
