Kids and teens are spending more time online than ever before, whether they are using apps, playing games, watching videos or connecting with friends. While the internet offers many opportunities to learn and explore, it is important for parents to help them develop safe online habits and understand how to protect their personal information.
The National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA) recommends the following steps to keep kids and teens safe online:

Talk openly with kids about online risks and why personal information should be kept private.

Teach kids not to share addresses, phone numbers, photos, or other sensitive information online.

Show kids how to use privacy and security settings on apps, games and social media platforms.

Encourage kids to think carefully before posting because information shared online can be difficult to remove.

Help kids recognize trusted websites and apps and avoid clicking unknown links or downloads.

Use parental controls and content filtering tools available through devices and wireless service providers.

Know what websites, apps and online communities your kids are using.

Remind kids to report online harassment, threats, or suspicious activity to a trusted adult.

Monitor wireless device purchases and downloads to help identify unwanted content or services.
