As spring takes hold across Michigan, broadband expansion efforts under the Realizing Opportunity with Broadband Infrastructure Networks (ROBIN) program are well underway and the finish line is in sight.
The ROBIN program supports service providers and public-private partnerships in expanding high-speed internet access to underserved areas across the state. As of March 31, 70% of the total homes, businesses and institutions that are going to receive high-speed internet access through the ROBIN program have now been reached.
Construction activities are ramping up as weather becomes favorable again and subgrantees are preparing for a productive season ahead with the intention of completing ROBIN program construction in 2026. Each new connection brings us closer to a more connected and equitable Michigan.

As more of our daily activities take place online, it is important to understand how to keep your information safe. When you browse the internet, shop online or use apps you create and share personal data that can be used to identify you. This type of data, often called personally identifiable information, can be targeted by cybercriminals if it is not handled carefully. The National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA) recommends the following steps to help reduce your risk and keep your information safe:
-
Use secure online connections by checking for websites that begin with https before entering personal information.
-
Be cautious about sharing sensitive details like your Social Security Number and only provide it when necessary.
- Avoid online quizzes or posts that ask for personal details, as they can be used to guess passwords or security answers.
-
Stay alert for phishing attempts, which are messages that try to trick you into sharing personal or financial information.
-
Limit what you share on social media and review your privacy settings so only trusted people can see your information.
-
Lock your phone, tablet and computer when not in use especially in public spaces.
-
Stay aware of your surroundings when using devices in public to prevent others from viewing your personal information.
