Join the Poverty Task Force (PTF) on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2025, at 1 p.m. via Zoom for a panel discussion about the challenges low-income communities and the organizations which serve them face in our digital world. Attendees will learn about resources available to bridge the cyber gaps.
Allie Herkenroder, with the Michigan High-Speed Internet (MIHI) office will kick things off with a brief overview of the MI Digital Equity Plan and the findings from community outreach and facilitate the subsequent panel discussion.

Mobile Beacon is inviting community organizations to apply for its Wi-Fly Lending Launch Kit grant program that helps expand internet access and digital inclusion. Selected pilot sites will receive 25 donated laptops and free unlimited Mobile Beacon service for each device for one year. All equipment will belong to the organization after the pilot period ends.
Eligible applicants include community anchor institutions such as schools, libraries, nonprofits and local government organizations that provide digital programs for the people they serve. The deadline to apply is Oct. 31, 2025. For more information and to apply, visit the Mobile Beacon website.
Every time someone visits a website or uses an app, information about their activity is collected and used to personalize content or ads. Companies use cookies, device settings and advertising identifiers to follow what users do online. While this can make browsing more convenient, it also raises privacy concerns.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) offers the following advice to help protect your personal information and limit how much data is collected while browsing:
- Delete browsing history and cookies regularly.
- Check privacy settings on browsers, phones and streaming devices to control what information is shared.

Review app permissions and turn off access to things like location or contacts when they are not needed.

Use ad blockers to limit targeted ads.

Use free tools to opt out of personalized ads.

Review cookie notices on websites and choose the option that best matches your comfort level.

Michigan’s BEAD Final Proposal has been submitted to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) for their review and approval, and MIHI is continuing to work through the NTIA curing process. The most current resubmitted data, as well as the text of the Final Proposal and a summary of the results from the Benefit of the Bargain Round, are available on the BEAD Final Proposal page.
