On July 18, the Michigan High Speed Internet Office (MIHI) digital equity team took part in the launch of Canopy, powered by Connect 313 at the Detroit Housing Commission's Resident Services Empowerment Fair. Canopy is a high-speed internet program that provides home internet to 450 households across DHC’s Brewster Homes, Forest Park and Diggs Homes. Canopy offers fast, reliable internet service with no monthly bills for three years.
The fair brought together a wide range of partners offering health, financial and personal services to Brewster Homes residents and included giveaways and games. The Canopy team was on site to help residents sign up for the new service and learn how it works.
MIHI has concluded the Benefit of the Bargain application period. MIHI received over 800 applications covering thousands of broadband serviceable locations across Michigan. MIHI is working through scoring and deconflicting applications and will notify preliminarily-selected subgrantees as soon as possible. The MIHI team would like to express appreciation to all organizations that have submitted applications to extend broadband coverage to BEAD-eligible homes, businesses and community anchor institutions across Michigan.
