Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has proclaimed March as Women’s History Month in Michigan. ANational Women’s History Alliance, the 2025 theme for Women's History Month is “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating and Inspiring Generations”. This theme celebrates the collective strength and influence of women who have dedicated their lives to education, mentorship and leadership. Through their efforts, they have served as an inspiration for all generations — both past and present.
“The MWC is promoting and creating pathways to generational wealth for women and their families and educating women of all ages about menopause and encouraging them to demand that women’s health concerns be heard and acted on. We echo Gov. Whitmer’s view that our families and communities thrive when women thrive.” said Cheryl Bergman, Executive Director of the Michigan Women’s Commission.

This year, the Michigan Women’s Commission (MWC) is focusing on collecting information on menopause and its effects on women in the workforce. In collaboration with Lorena Disha, PhD student at Rutgers University, we’re surveying women throughout Michigan from diverse organizations and workplaces, to make policy recommendations for employers and policymakers to make menopause in the workplace a manageable experience that allows women to participate fully in the workforce.
MWC will kick off conversations around the state with employers, health providers, health industry leaders and policy makers along with women in the community to have open and honest conversation on menopause and how it affects women in the workplace and their health overall.
All month long, we’ll be sharing the past, present and future of menopause on our social media accounts.
