Two county land banks recently marked significant milestones with the groundbreaking of new housing projects. In late April in Ingham County, the Land Bank celebrated by hosting a groundbreaking ceremony for four brand-new condominium units, alongside an open house showcasing five nearly completed units in Lansing. This event attracted state and local officials and stakeholders. Attendees had the exclusive opportunity to preview these housing units located on Saginaw Street, replacing foreclosed homes that were beyond repair, and now offering nine affordable housing options.

Meanwhile, Shiawassee County Land Bank joined the momentum by hosting its own groundbreaking ceremony in early May, marking the commencement of further development at Woodland Trails condominiums. These 14 properties, which came under the ownership of the State Land Bank Authority (SLBA) in 2013 due to tax foreclosure, have since been transferred to the Shiawassee County Land Bank. With the establishment of the county land bank in 2022, the responsibility for these properties shifted to continue the development process initiated by the SLBA. Through collaborative efforts between land bank, city and county officials, planned sites in Owosso are being leveraged for additional housing opportunities, further contributing to community growth and revitalization.
