The Michigan Women’s Commission joins Governor Gretchen Whitmer in celebrating March 2023 as Women’s History Month!
“I encourage you to ask a woman you admire about her story. Or write your own. Remind yourself of the obstacles you’ve overcome and be proud of how far you’ve come. Let’s keep sharing each other’s stories and inspiring future generations to tell theirs.”

Speaking of women’s contributions, our Vice Chair Dr. Geneva Williams recently celebrated Michigan’s historically diverse elected leadership in the Lansing State Journal:
“When Governor Gretchen Whitmer took to the podium to deliver her State of the State Address in January, the second-ever woman governor of Michigan stood in front of the state’s first female Senate majority leader and first Black house speaker as she spoke to a Michigan Legislature containing a record number of women and a record number of openly LGBTQ+ people. This, on the heels of being sworn in for her second gubernatorial term by the first Black woman justice on the Michigan Supreme Court earlier this year.”

The Michigan Women’s Commission joined the U.S. Women’s Bureau in Detroit on Feb. 28 for conversations on Advancing Equity in Infrastructure-Funded Jobs. Our CEO Cheryl Bergman, Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity Director Susan Corbin and our Commissioner Danielle Atkinson shared ways Michigan is preparing women for the in-demand, higher-paying jobs stemming out of unprecedented federal funding for infrastructure improvements.

“What is Galentine’s Day? It’s only the best day of the year.” – Leslie Knope
Ladies were celebrating ladies when we recently joined Governor Whitmer for a Galentine's Day reception with women leaders in Michigan's executive, legislative and judicial offices. With more women than ever serving in our state’s leadership, the event was an opportunity to meet each other across branches and across political parties.
Want to keep celebrating women in leadership? Check out our #MIWomenWednesday YouTube playlist! Filmed over the past year, #MIWomenWednesday was our campaign to celebrate Michigan’s trail-blazers, ceiling-busters and ladder-builders – women who are changing the face of leadership in our state.

Does your employer participate in MI Tri-Share Child Care? If so, you could lower your family’s child care costs by two-thirds!
Through MI Tri-Share, the cost of an employee's child care is shared equally among the employer, the employee and the State of Michigan — a three-way split — with coordination being provided regionally by a Tri-Share facilitator hub. It is an innovative, bipartisan program introduced by Governor Gretchen Whitmer and managed by the Michigan Women’s Commission to make child care more affordable for more families.
