Exciting news! Students who meet the Michigan residency requirements will now receive an auto-generated email from MI Student Aid once they have filed their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and we have received their information from the Federal Processing Center.
Incomplete FAFSA Student Communication
If the student's FAFSA is incomplete, the communication will notify students of steps they need to take to make corrections. Please see the example below:
Hello Jordan,
MI Student Aid has received your 2025-26 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) from the Federal Processing Center; however, your FAFSA is incomplete.
Please return to StudentAid.gov to update your 2025-26 FAFSA. You may also call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 800-433-3243.
Once you complete your FAFSA, please remember to log into your MiSSG Student Portal Account so that you can view your State of Michigan financial aid. If you have not created an account, you can now! Creating a Student Portal account is vital to tracking and maximizing your State of Michigan financial aid options.
In the portal, you may:
- Update Contact Information
- Update your College/University Instructions
- Complete Program Applications
- Monitor Award Status
