VACCINE UPDATE  

 

  • The state of Michigan has administered 6,820,926 total doses of the COVID-19 vaccines, with 130,339 administered on April 27 – April 28. Every COVID-19 vaccine allocated to Michigan has either been administered or is scheduled to be administered via appointment.

ICYMI 

 

  • On Thursday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer set the state of Michigan on a pathway to return to normal by unveiling the ‘MI Vacc to Normal’ plan as the state continues to push toward its goal of vaccinating 70% of Michiganders ages 16 years or older. To facilitate this goal, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) will base future epidemic order actions on four vaccination-based milestones that, once achieved, will enable Michigan to take a step toward normalcy.  

 

“The MI Vacc to Normal challenge outlines steps we can take to emerge from this pandemic as we hit our vaccination targets together,” said Governor Gretchen Whitmer. “On our path to vaccinating 70% of Michiganders 16 and up, we can take steps to gradually get back to normal while keeping people safe. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to rise to the challenge and be a part of the solution so we can continue our economic recovery and have the summer we all crave.”  

 

“We can end this virus on our terms by following the protocols we are putting forward, encouraging everyone in your life to do the same, and ensuring that everyone eligible to receive a vaccine gets one,” said Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist. “What we have been observing across our state is that the thing that moves a person to choose to get vaccinated is hearing from someone they know about why it is so important, why they chose to get vaccinated. That means that every person who has not yet chosen to get vaccinated is one conversation away from making that choice. We can make that happen for them and for all of us. The MI Vacc to Normal challenge is a great reminder that we’re all on one team, working towards ending COVID-19.” 

  • Governor Gretchen Whitmer received a second dose of the safe and effective Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine administered by Dr. Joneigh Khaldun. The governor joined six Grand Rapids teens serving as Protect Michigan Commission COVID-19 ambassadors in receiving their vaccines.   

"I feel relieved to have gotten my second dose today and join millions of fully vaccinated Michiganders in the fight against COVID-19,” said Governor Whitmer. “Although I have my second dose, I will continue to socially distance, wash my hands often, and wear a mask when necessary. I urge all Michiganders to get vaccinated as soon as possible to protect you and your loved ones from COVID-19. Every day we’re getting closer and closer to the light at the end of the tunnel. Let’s beat COVID-19 together.”  

  • MDHHS  announced 3,623 cases of COVID-19 from yesterday. This brings the total number of positive cases of COVID-19 to 837,514.

HAPPENING ACROSS STATE GOVERNMENT 

 

  • The State's Return-to-Office Workgroup has provided Gov. Gretchen Whitmer with their recommendations for how employers can begin to plan for a safe, phased reopening of offices. The group consisting of business, labor and public health experts, was established on March 15, and has acted quickly to develop concise recommendations regarding Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) polices and additional guidance and best practices to help employers plan for a return to in-person office work.   

"Workers and their safety are our top priority," said Michigan COVID-19 Workplace Safety Director Sean Egan. "We have taken a proactive approach to listen and collect feedback from a wide array of stakeholders, as we try to address challenges and concerns of employers who are looking to align their reopen plans with health guidance and safety rules."
