  • On Friday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced a new community vaccine site at United Wholesale Mortgage Sports Complex Vaccine Site in Pontiac which has the capacity to administer up to 3,000 shots per day and will help get our nation back to normal.

"In Michigan, the vaccine process is getting faster and smoother every day, and this community vaccination site in Oakland County will help us reach our goal of equitably vaccinating 70 percent of Michiganders 16 and up more quickly,” said Governor Whitmer. “Everyone should get the safe, effective vaccine once you are eligible because it is the most effective way to protect you and your loved ones from COVID-19 and help get our state back to normal. By ramping up our vaccine distribution, we can beat COVID-19 together and enjoy the summer celebrations that we all crave.”

  • On Friday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed Executive Order No. 2021-04, establishing the Task Force on Forensic Science. The Task Force will be an advisory body nested within the Michigan Department of State Police and be comprised of medical practitioners, legal professionals, government officials, academics, private sector experts, and representatives from the Michigan State Police, Michigan Supreme Court, and Attorney General’s office.

A fair trial is at the core of the American criminal justice system,” said Governor Gretchen Whitmer. “While forensic science is an important tool, misapplication of forensic science can deprive a person of a fair trial. We must ensure that Michigan adheres to the highest standards of evidence, and that practitioners throughout our criminal justice system understand how to apply forensic science properly.”

Michigan will always ensure that the highest standards are being met when it comes to justice,” said Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist. “The work of the Forensic Science Task Force will ensure that our legal and criminal justice systems can keep up with the times. The Governor and I look forward to their recommendations.”

  • MDHHS announced 8,413 cases of COVID-19 from April 3. This brings the total number of positive cases of COVID-19 to 692,206

HAPPENING ACROSS STATE GOVERNMENT

  • To ensure Michiganders remain hyper vigilant about protecting themselves from bad actors seeking to steal personal information, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel today announced another series of informative and humorous videos focused on consumer protection.

The second video focuses on imposter scams where bad actors typically insist that you owe money and in order to avoid further issues, you must pay them in gift cards.

“I cannot stress enough that as scammers get more sophisticated in their approach, you cannot trust your caller ID,” said Nessel. “Due to technology known as spoofing, bad actors can make it appear as if they’re calling from just about any phone number. That is why it’s crucial to independently verify who is calling and never ever provide your personal information or fulfill a request for a stranger who unexpectedly calls you. The fact is: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”

  • Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) are urging Michiganders to get tested for COVID-19 upon returning from Spring Break in an effort to help slow the spread of COVID-19. In efforts to make testing easier for travelers, the state is offering 37 pop-up sites located throughout Michigan as part of the special testing program.

“Brighter days are ahead with vaccinations being available to all Michiganders as of April 5, however, there are still critical efforts we must take to slow the spread of COVID-19,” said Governor Whitmer. “COVID-19 remains a threat to our families and communities, and we encourage Michiganders to get tested for COVID-19 and are making it easier through these additional testing pop-up sites throughout the state. As always, every Michigander has a personal responsibility to do their part by wearing a mask, washing hands and maintaining social distancing to help us slow the spread of this virus.”

“Michiganders should get tested one to three days before travel,” said Elizabeth Hertel, MDHHS director. “Do not travel if you test positive. Check travel restrictions before leaving, especially information about the spread of new variants of COVID-19 where you intend on visiting.”
