
Lansing—According to the Michigan Venture Capital Association,
Michigan is now ranked 15th in the nation in terms of venture
capital activity, up from 25th just last year. Michigan saw $232
million in investments made last year, while venture capital investment dropped
10 percent nationally. With more good news, Site Selection magazine named
Michigan the 8th most competitive state for achieving success in job

At six MiVirtualCareerFair events so far in 2012 and 2013, more

find talent. The next MiVirtualCareerFair event is scheduled for Wednesday, June 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
MiVirtualCareerFair is an online career event where job seekers
and employers can interact in a live, 3-D virtual environment. Register for

industries.
MiVirtualCareerFair provides the opportunity for:
- Live conversations between
recruiters and candidates via instant chat and/or webcam.

the Auditorium.

Michigan
Shifting Gears (MiSG) is a three-month program that helps highly experienced,
educated and talented people undergoing a career transition find new
opportunities with smaller, innovative companies. The purpose of the program is
to help displaced professionals learn new ways to frame their value in the
workplace and develop networks - thus opening new doors to job opportunities,
and allowing Michigan to retain key talent for growing employers.
Sign up
before July to offer an unpaid internship project, and
get great and experienced talent. The internship talent connection is on Thursday,
July 11 from 8 - 9:30 a.m. at regional partner locations (locations TBD),
with internships beginning on July 30. Following the event, companies and
MiSG participants directly connect and work out details and ensure proper
fit.

In March of 2011, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's National
Chamber Foundation launched Hiring Our Heroes, a nationwide initiative to help veterans
and military spouses find meaningful employment. Hiring Our Heroes has
hosted more than 365 hiring fairs around the country and helped more than
14,100 veterans find jobs.
The organization expanded their efforts in 2012 with a goal of
hosting hiring fairs in 400 communities, the establishment of a stand-alone
program for military spouses, and a sustained campaign to enlist commitments
from the small business community to hire veterans and military spouses by
the end of 2014.
