When setting up or editing your account on Pure Michigan Talent Connect, there is an area for you to demonstrate your Top Skills, a total of 5 different boxes, each containing space for up to 150 characters. To ensure your skills are being matched with top employers, take note of the following tips:

  • Enter keywords that employers can search to locate your profile
  • Create a word document to ensure spell check of your top skills, as well as a character count
  • Log on often, within every 90 days to remain viewable by employers
  • When initially searching for employers, conduct a broad-based search, then refine the search if necessary.

Business in Michigan is thriving, and MiVirtualCareerFair is the State of Michigan’s hottest new way to find exciting jobs.

At six MiVirtualCareerFair events so far in 2012 and 2013, more than 7,000 jobseekers have connected to over 70 Michigan employers looking to find talent. The next MiVirtualCareerFair event is scheduled for Wednesday, June 26 from 10am to 4pm.

Hiring Our Heroes

In March of 2011, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's National Chamber Foundation launched Hiring Our Heroes, a nationwide initiative to help veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment. Hiring Our Heroes has hosted more than 365 hiring fairs around the country and helped more than 14,100 veterans find jobs.

The organization expanded their efforts in 2012 with a goal of hosting hiring fairs in 400 communities, the establishment of a stand-alone program for military spouses, and a sustained campaign to enlist commitments from the small business community to hire veterans and military spouses by the end of 2014.

Hiring Our Heroes is coming to the following Michigan communities in 2013. Note additional cities/dates.

Michigan Shifting Gears

Michigan Shifting Gears is a career-transition program for seasoned mid- and late-career professional talent going through, or preparing to go through, a career transition scenario. Whether currently unemployed and struggling in their career search, preparing to change careers, looking to reinvent themselves, or starting from scratch developing a relevant professional network, this program can provide game-changing value through an experience unique to each individual participant. In its fourth year, this program is seeing consistent results, and the lives of the participants - as well as their mindsets and strategies for a successful career transition - are changing.

There's still time to register for the Michigan Shifting Gears Summer 2013 session which begins Tuesday, June 18 and ends September 18. In order to register, you must first view an informational webinar. The webinar provides a program overview and the opportunity ask questions.
