Construction on US-127 resumes next week.

Prepare for lane closures and detours next week as we resume construction along US-127, expected to last throughout the fall. Get ahead of delays now and plan alternate routes for your daily commute.

Starting Sunday, March 2, staging will begin for this year's work planned for southbound US-127. That evening, both the southbound US-127 and eastbound I-496 exits to Trowbridge Road will be closed to allow crews to safely place barrier wall and pavement markings that will launch the following two weeks of staging.

 Traffic restrictions:

Beginning at 6 a.m. on Monday, March 3, there will be several intermittent lane and ramp closures for pavement marking and temporary concrete barrier placement.

On March 18, both directions of US-127 will be shifted to the northbound side, with northbound and southbound traffic separated by a concrete barrier.

The following ramps will be closed and detoured from mid-March until mid-June:

  • Westbound I-96 to southbound US-127
  • Southbound US-127 to westbound I-96
  • Southbound US-127 to eastbound I-96
  • Dunckel Road to southbound US-127

The following ramps will be closed from mid-March until mid-November:

  • Northbound US-127 to westbound I-496
  • Eastbound I-496 to Trowbridge Road
  • Southbound US-127 to Trowbridge Road
  • Trowbridge Road to southbound US-127
  • Kalamazoo Street/Howard Street to southbound US-127

In addition, a portion of the Lansing River Trail will also be closed on March 10 for 4 to 6 weeks to accommodate this spring's planned bridge repairs.

Project information:

This work is part of the $205 million project to rebuild US-127/I-496 from I-96 to I-496 that is addressing safety concerns and improving roadway geometrics and vehicular movement. In addition, crews are improving and rebuilding bridges through this segment, as well as updating drainage, signs and pavement markings.
