Billwood Highway closure for tree clearing at I-96 in Eaton County begins Monday
LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will begin intermittent closures on Billwood Highway and single-lane closures on I-96 between Lansing Road and Creyts Road in Eaton County for tree clearing.
This work is the beginning stage of a three-year, $44 million investment in I-96. Work for this project includes rebuilding the eastbound and westbound I-96 bridges over Billwood Highway and the Grand River and rebuilding the eastbound and westbound I-96 bridges over M-99 and Washington Avenue. Construction will begin on Feb. 6. Most of the work will be completed in 2023 and 2024 with road construction and crossover removal taking place in 2025.
This work is part of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s Rebuilding Michigan program to rebuild the state highways and bridges that are critical to the state's economy and carry the most traffic. The investment strategy is aimed at fixes that result in longer useful lives and improves the condition of the state's infrastructure.
