I-94 Project Update

May 6, 2019 – Last week, the contractor finished setting metal decking and tying deck steel on the new eastbound I-94 bridge over the Grand River. The contractor also poured the pier wall for the new Cooper St. bridge. Additionally, the contractor continued pavement repairs on I-94 between Elm and Sargent Road.

Work on the new eastbound I-94 bridge over the Grand River continues. The contractor will be placing concrete on the new bridge deck. Crews will also continue work on the abutment wall for the new Cooper Street bridge.

This week, crews will continue reconstructing the Cooper street interchange. The contractor will continue the removal process of the existing facilities, placing embankment, and placing storm sewer within the closure limits of the Cooper Street interchange. The rehabilitation work on Cooper Street from Ganson St to Porter St will continue throughout the week. Crews will also continue pavement repairs along east and westbound I-94 at night within the project limits.

Single lane closures will continue this week at night on I-94 with all lanes open to traffic each morning, as well as daytime single lane closures on Cooper Street from Ganson St to Porter St. Daytime shoulder closures and reduced speed zones along I-94 between M-60 and Sargent Road will remain in place to delineate the work zone. Cooper Street over I-94 remains closed until October and the eastbound I-94 Cooper Street on and off ramps remain closed until mid-June.

ATTENTION: Night time single lane closures on I-94 occurring on Friday extending into Saturday and Saturday extending into Sunday will be in place until 11 a.m. to accommodate pavement repairs.

When Cooper street reopens the interchange layout will be significantly different. The new interchange layout will consist of two new roundabouts. To provide more information on roundabouts a link to the Roundabout Information located on MDOT’s website will provide answers to questions about roundabouts and how to safely navigate one.
