Macomb County Progress

We’ve made the turn at the half way mark and are beginning the push towards the finish. Late last week a traffic switch was executed to move eastbound traffic onto the newly constructed westbound lanes. This will allow the eastbound pavement to be removed and replaced in similar fashion to the work that has been done to date. In the week since the switch we have already removed 25% of the existing pavement and begun placing base material in preparation for the first concrete pour on the eastbound side.

If you are traveling on eastbound I-696 between I-75 and I-94 you will be able to exit at Dequindre, Mound, and M-97 (Groesbeck Hwy), and will have access to both EB and WB I-94. There are no open entrance ramps to EB I-696 east of I-75. Later this afternoon,  you will have access to 11 Mile Rd. and M-53 (Van Dyke Ave) by way of a temporary ramp from the Mound Rd. exit. From this temporary ramp you will be able to head east or west on 11 Mile Rd./I-696 Service Drive to your intended destination.

Oakland County Progress

Work in Oakland County is moving right along. Only three full closure weekends remain to complete concrete pavement repairs. All three remaining closures will be on EB I-696, one between US-24 (Telegraph Rd) and I-75 and two between I-275 and Telegraph. There will be no work this holiday weekend though work will commence the weekend of September 7th-9th, with the closure of EB I-696 from Telegraph to I-75. After the holiday weekend, WB I-696 will continue to have nightly lane closures to complete joint repair work.
