Eastbound I-696 update: Upcoming Macomb County traffic shift, Oakland County weekend closure from US-24 to I-75

COUNTIES:

Macomb and Oakland

TRAFFIC SHIFT:

8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23 - 5 a.m. Friday Aug. 24, 2018

WEEKEND CLOSURE:

8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24 - 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27, 2018

OVERALL PROJECT END DATE:

November 2018

TRAFFIC SHIFT DETAILS:

Beginning 8 p.m. Thursday, crews will begin to reduce eastbound I-696 from four lanes to one from M-1 (Woodward Avenue) to I-94 to finish prep work for shifting eastbound traffic to the westbound lanes. All eastbound entrance and exit ramps in Macomb County will be closed, including the temporary closure of the northbound and southbound I-75 ramps to eastbound I-696.

During the overnight hours, crews will finish lane markings, sign work, and ramp closures and will then shift the one lane of eastbound traffic across the median and onto the westbound side, which will then have three lanes.

By 5 a.m. Friday, eastbound I-696 in Macomb County will have the three left lanes shifted onto the new concrete with the fourth lane leading to the Dequindre Road exit only. All I-696 entrance ramps in Macomb County will be closed through the end of the project. The only available exit ramps will be to Dequindre Road, Mound Road, M-97 (Groesbeck Highway), and I-94.

Reminder: westbound I-696, including all entrance and exit ramps, will remain closed in Macomb County. The first ramp for westbound traffic is Couzens Avenue.

WEEKEND PROJECT DETAILS:

This is the fourth weekend closure of this stretch of eastbound I-696 in Oakland County as part of the Michigan Department of Transportation's "Restore the Reuther" project.

Beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, crews will begin closing the entrance ramps to eastbound I-696 from US-24 (Telegraph Road) to I-75 until 5 a.m. Monday. The northbound and southbound I-75 ramps will be open to eastbound I-696.

Detour: southbound M-10 to eastbound Davison Freeway, then northbound I-75 to eastbound I-696.
