I-696 Project (Restore the Reuther)

Work has started!

All lanes and ramps on I-696 remain OPEN at this time. However, you will begin to see more and more activity in preparation for the closure of westbound I-696 between I-94 and I-75. We plan to announce a date for the freeway closure in Macomb County later this week. Work in Oakland County is tentatively scheduled to begin mid-May with additional information to be provided soon.

In the meantime, some of the things you might see:

Equipment moving in
Materials being delivered
Crews installing temporary traffic signing
Temporary traffic signals being installed on 11 Mile Road/I-696 service drives
Work to reconfigure the intersection of Harper Road and M-102

To complete this work there will be intermittent SINGLE LANE CLOSURES on 11 Mile Road. Harper Road will be CLOSED between 8 Mile Road and M-102.
