 The Michigan Department of Corrections is committed to providing our employees with up-to-date information as it relates to our efforts in dealing with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
 Earlier this month, Lincoln Park Parole Office Agent Sarah Wald received the 2021 Candice Dunn Agent of the Year Nominee award presented by Assistant Deputy Director Beverly Smith. Also, in attendance were Operations Administrator Latrece Porter and Supervisor Barbara Newland. Agent Sarah Wald has been employed with the Michigan Department of Corrections Field Operations Administration for thirteen years, volunteering to supervise various caseloads including; gender specific, telephone reporting, GPS, lifers and currently the MI-Rep/Vivitrol cases.
In July 2019, she was selected to join the Michigan Department of Corrections Honor Guard which she continues to honorably serve on to this day. Agent Wald consistently displays a genuine concern for co-workers across the state, the community and the parolees she supervises. Agent Wald did not shy away from her commitments in light of a pandemic, she rose to the challenge and willingly donned the MDOC Honor Guard uniform representing the department in many of the most sacred occasions, honoring our fallen MDOC heroes and serving their families during countless funerals and memorials. Agent Wald carried out these task displaying a high level of dignity, professionalism and compassion. Region Manager Janella Robinson describes Agent Wald as a truly dedicated servant committed to making a positive difference in the lives of all those she encounters. As Sarah has said frequently, she truly puts her “heart” into her job. It is with great pleasure we honor Agent Wald.

The MDOC Honor Guard is recruiting new members who are focused, disciplined, professional and intensely dedicated. The unit serves in varied capacities including banquets, ceremonies, and parades, as well as funeral and memorial services. The Honor Guard is open to all status MDOC employees from throughout the state. Having a background in drill and ceremony, or some type of disciplined marching is helpful but not required. Each Honor Guard member is an envoy for the Department, promoting a positive perception of the Department at all times. If you are ready to accept a new challenge and you are committed to be the best, please contact your Warden/Administrator regarding a position within the nationally recognized drill and ceremony unit.

Agent Jonathan Marcus started with the department in 2014 at Berrien County Parole located in Benton Harbor, Michigan where he maintained a general caseload.
He transferred to Kent parole in 2016 and took on the D47 and Veterans caseload. He supervised this caseload for about three years and then switched to supervising sex offenders. He currently supervises the sex offender case load which requires regular communication with treatment providers, engagement in Case Management Teams, use of the Acute 2007 risk assessment, and GPS monitoring. This is a high demand caseload and Agent Marcus handles it with ease.
Agent Marcus goes above and beyond with his clients to ensure that they are successfully discharged from parole. Whether it is utilizing offender success resources to obtain housing and or tools needed for work to utilizing the case management team to discuss supervision options Agent Marcus makes the right connections to support his clients. Every recommendation made from CMT to PV is well thought out and customized to the individual in question. He takes into account the individuals life circumstances in all decisions. Agent Marcus maintains regular communication with Offender Success so that he can provide every opportunity available to his caseload. He is a model agent and the embodiment of the MDOC mission statement and goals.
Agent Marcus shows integrity in his work. His responses to his caseload are always well thought out and his decision making is sound. He utilizes his knowledge base to maximize his effectiveness when helping clients. Treats clients with respect while holding them accountable for their actions and the requirements of their parole order. Jonathan Marcus is truly making a positive impact in those that he supervises.
