The Michigan Department of Corrections is committed to providing our employees with up-to-date information as it relates to our efforts in dealing with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
In August, Pontiac Probation Supervisor Heather Wayne presented Pontiac Probation Agent Joan Anway with her 35-year service pin. Agent Anway always goes the extra mile to help her coworkers and offenders. Over the last year, she transitioned from writing presentence reports to being a supervision agent. Agent Anway embraces change and exhibits resilience.
We join Supervisor Wayne in thanking Agent Anway for her continued dedication to the department and congratulate her on reaching such a significant milestone in her career.

*Today's daily case count represents new referrals of confirmed cases to the MDSS since the last web update report. Over the two days (Tuesday and Wednesday), the average number of new confirmed cases is ~4335 per day.
*Regular reviews of death certificate data maintained in Vital Records reporting systems are conducted by MDHHS staff three times per week. As a part of this process, records that identify COVID-19 infection as a contributing factor to death are compared against all laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS). If a death certificate is matched to a confirmed COVID-19 case and that record in the MDSS does not indicate the individual died, the MDSS record is updated to indicate the death and the appropriate local health department is notified. These matched deaths are then included with mortality information posted to the Michigan Coronavirus website. As a result of the most recent assessment, today's data includes 58 additional deaths identified by this methodology.
