Covered bridge along Kal-Haven Trail State Park closed Oct. 11-15

Due to inspection and maintenance work, the covered bridge along Kal-Haven Trail State Park in Kalamazoo and Van Buren counties will close temporarily from 7 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, until 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15. Though the bridge, which crosses the Black River near mile marker 1 in South Haven, will be entirely closed, the following trail sections can be used:

  • From the Wells Street trailhead in South Haven, trail users can travel along a 1-mile section to the covered bridge.
  • From the Kibbie trailhead in South Haven, trail users can travel 2.5 miles west to the covered bridge or 30 miles east to the 10th Street trailhead in Kalamazoo. Additional trail parking can be found at the Kibbie trailhead located near the intersection of Baseline Road and CR 687 in South Haven.

The 33-mile Kal-Haven Trail State Park links the cities of South Haven and Kalamazoo via numerous bridges and small towns. The trail includes 31 exhibit panels that explore the natural and cultural history of the area.
