Walleye are one of the most popular sportfish in Michigan, but most people already knew that. What most people don't know is the process we use to rear walleye and stock them in public waterbodies throughout the state. It's vastly different then our traditional fish rearing methods.

Living on Michigan's inland lakes

Eleven-thousand inland lakes are estimated to call Michigan home, with a good handful covering 1,000 acres or more. With all that water comes great opportunity - boating, fishing, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, vacationing and even living! With all that water comes great responsibility too - something the DNR's inland lakes habitat analyst wants everyone to be aware of.

Learning the habits of smallmouth bass in northern Lake Michigan

For so long it was believed smallmouth bass didn't travel far or intermix their populations - especially in a large waterbody like Lake Michigan. But early studies hinted that smallmouth bass just may travel much farther than researchers initially understood.

Draw down at Hoister Lake (Gladwin Co.) complete - recreators can get back in action

Hoister Lake is a 23-acre impoundment located in the North Branch Cedar River drainage and in the Gladwin Field Trial Area. Due to issues with its control structure a draw down was completed and now those with a small watercraft can re-pay it a visit!
