DNR to hold open house on proposed ORV route in Mackinac County

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has scheduled an open house for next week to gather public comment on an off-road vehicle route connector proposal in Mackinac County.

The proposed ORV route would connect Moran and Detour, and neighboring communities.

The open house is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. EDT, Tuesday May 30 at the Clark Township Hall, located at 207 North Blind Line Road in Cedarville.

“This connector will provide access to a number of communities and services needed for destination riding of ORVs,” said Paul Gaberdiel, DNR recreation trails specialist for the eastern Upper Peninsula. “This route proposal has been initiated by the Les Cheneaux Snowmobile Club grant sponsor and is supported by local townships. The connector would use a variety of national forest, county and state highways, and state forest roads, totaling over 100 miles.”

A variety of partners supporting the proposal include the U.S. Forest Service’s Hiawatha National Forest, affected county road commissions, the Michigan Department of Transportation and the DNR.
