September 2025
One should never underestimate the power of good, generous people, wanting to make a difference. Our friends at Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association (CVMA) 35-1 have been hosting an annual 'Jacobetti Ride' for more than a decade to raise funds for the Jacobetti Charitable Support Fund - and they tend to have more than a little fun while doing it. This August, the group stopped by the Jacobetti to present a $15,000 check to the Home, bringing the group's eleven-year giving total to more than $92,000!
'Thank you' fails to do justice for the remarkable generosity our veterans our blessed to receive from CVMA 35-1, and so many others. We do more at MVH, thanks to our selfless supporters.
At MVH, our 'bread and butter' is providing exceptional skilled nursing care and quality of life to those veterans who need nursing home care. However, we're more than that, too. We pride ourselves on being members of and partners with the broader communities we're privileged to serve.
In August, MVH at Chesterfield Twp. was grateful to open its doors to be the location site for a 'Veterans Roundtable' event hosted by U.S. Congresswoman Lisa McClain, where the Chairwoman joined veteran stakeholders - including staff and veteran leadership from MVH at Chesterfield Twp. - to listen to and discuss a wide variety of topics, issues, and opportunities around veteran care and services.
Michigan Veteran Homes are, indeed, the 'Homes' of our members. But they're also symbolic, representing our communities', our state's, and our nation's promise to those who've worn the uniform: our veterans served us, and now we're there to serve them when they need it most. We're grateful to be partners in our communities, serving our communities.
Everything we do at MVH is about ensuring the best experience for our veterans. Indeed, we strive for excellence, and we embrace a culture of continuous improvement to best serve those men and women who've served us. We're assessed in many ways on that journey as well. One of those important assessments is the nursing home survey process, that helps determine compliance with a wide array of state and federal regulations - something skilled nursing facilities know well, that facilities prepare diligently for, and work tirelessly to excel at. Indeed, survey results play into the 'star rankings' system for nursing homes, amongst other things.
On that note, last month, MVH at Chesterfield Twp. was ranked as the #1 skilled nursing facility in the State of Michigan, based on their survey scores! As one can infer, this is no small accomplishment, and is a testament to the work, passion, and energy of the incredible staff at MVH at Chesterfield Twp. - a team intent on delivering an exceptional experience for veterans.
If you see the team from Chesterfield Twp. out and about, on your next visit to the Home, or otherwise, make sure to congratulate them. Such a ranking and accomplishment neither implies perfection, nor will deter from the Home's ongoing pursuit of excellence to benefit our veterans. Nonetheless, it's a well-deserved recognition, and one we're very, very proud of.
Great job, MVH at Chesterfield Township!
There's a hint of Autumn in the air. That means color changes are on the horizon, and soon you won't be able to escape the option of pumpkin flavored everything. As you enter the back end of 2025, consider spending your Nov. 8th with MVH at Grand Rapids, for their annual 'Veterans Day 5' event. The Saturday morning includes options for a 1/2-mile untimed Remembrance Walk/Roll, as well a timed 5k and 5-miler, and concludes with a pancake breakfast generously sponsored by our friends at SpartanNash.

In August, our colleagues at the MI Dept. of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) launched a statewide system offering free and comprehensive person-centered options counseling for adults seeking long-term care services and supports. "MI Options provides counseling through a network of community-based providers and partners who were identified by a statewide Grant Funding Opportunity. These include regional Area Agencies on Aging, Centers for Independent Living and local nonprofit organizations."
Whether you're seeking long-term care, or know someone who is - or might be in the future - knowing resources to help them can benefit those you care about. We're sharing so you can stay informed on options and resources!

In late August, MVH at Grand Rapids held a car wash, raising funds for the home's employee enrichment programming - and having a carload of fun doing so. MVH prides itself on providing exceptional care to our members. However, we know it's just as important to offer the opportunity for an exceptional quality of life for our veterans as well, and our Activities Department holds nothing back in that arena. The smiles created through the plentiful opportunities for our members are unmatched, and we're grateful to have such an amazing team of people caring for our members.
On that note, our team tends to have quite a bit of fun while providing an exceptional experience to our veterans and carrying out our mission. Interested? You can learn more about careers at MVH at the link below.
Traditions are special at MVH. One of many at MVH D.J. Jacobetti is the annual Member Carnival, that seems to mark the beginning of the end of the wonderful summer season. The event has games and prizes, a dunk tank and music, and so much more, and is always an amazing day, thanks to the Jacobetti's generous community of supporters. This year was no exception. While it was a little cooler than desired, perhaps, smiles filled the parking lot, as attendees left with full stomachs and fulfilled hearts.
It's different at MVH - it's better - thanks to our generous communities of supporters. To our Veterans Facility Coordinators at Jacobetti, our volunteers, sponsors, and all who give their time, talents, and/or treasures to MVH and its veterans: THANK YOU.
