May 2025
You're invited. Saturday morning, June 7th, join the members, staff, families, volunteers, and supporters of MVH at Chesterfield Township for the home's annual Walk, Run, & Roll event. The morning starts with a 1/2-mile Remembrance Walk/Roll alongside MVH veterans, and is followed by a timed 5k. The event concludes with a hot dog lunch.
Jennifer Manning, MVH at Chesterfield Township Administrator, stated, "Every year this fun event raises funds for our veterans and their quality of life. But it's more than that. It's really an opportunity to invite the broader community into our home, and connect them with these men and women who've served our nation, and now make this their home. It's about supporting them. It's about community."

The campus of MVH at Grand Rapids is home to a post-Civil War era cemetery: hallowed grounds that veterans of the home have made their final resting place for generations. On May 21, 2025 - the Wednesday before Memorial Day - community members are invited to join MVH at Grand Rapids and Scouts of America for the annual flag placement, where Scouts and community members will place flags at the final resting places of the thousands of veterans interred there.
We're grateful our friends at the UPS Veteran Resource Group, who are sponsoring a hot dog cookout for the event from 5pm-5:45pm. The Honor Ceremony will occur at 6pm, and Taps will be performed following the placement of all of the flags. Learn more and sign up at the link below.
It has been - and continues to be - a journey. We're excited to share that trees are down and site preparation is underway for the replacement home of MVH D.J. Jacobetti in Marquette Township. Later in May, we'll officially break ground as we look forward to this generational investment in veterans of the Upper Peninsula. Construction is expected to take approx. 36 months.
The current MVH D.J. Jacobetti is a 1950s era hospital building - formerly St. Mary's Hospital - while the replacement home will feel much more homelike for those veterans needing long-term care. Stay connected with the project on our website, and by following us on social media.
On June 14th, join MVH D.J. Jacobetti on Flag Day for a pancake breakfast in the back parking lot of the home, from 8am-11am. A raffle at the event is being held by the American Legion Post 44, with proceeds being donated to the Jacobetti's Charitable Support Fund. Raffle tickets can be acquired by calling Sarah at 906-226-3576 x2520396. A $10 donation is suggested for the breakfast.
Thank you to American Legion Post 44, Stockings 4 Soldiers, Island Resort & Casion, the DOD Transition Assistance Program, and all who are coming together to support this event. Check out the raffle items, and get more info at the link below.
We do more for our veterans at MVH, thanks to our communities. A recent example of that community generosity and volunteerism was at MVH at Chesterfield Township, where our friend Lucas, alongside his Boy Scout Troop 472, organized and built our veterans two wheelchair accessible picnic tables for his Eagle Scout project.
And that's just one example. We could tell you about how our community friends come into MVH D.J. Jacobetti to help veterans do gardening, or play games, and more. Or the many, many other activities and support our volunteers provide at each one of our homes. But you should follow us on social media, and stay connected with us to see all of that incredible generosity for yourself.
In April, we celebrated National Volunteer Week, recognizing the incredible work our volunteers do to support our mission, and our veterans. From all of us at MVH, to all of our volunteers: THANK YOU.
There are lots of ways to stay connected with and/or support MVH. We're changing veteran lives for the better, in later-in-life and end-of-life care. Join us.

We do more, thanks to our generous community of supporters.
Michigan Veteran Homes' niche - in the vast array of serving veterans - is providing skilled nursing care and exceptional quality of life to members at MVH. That said, we know there are a lot of other organizations and missions that serve veterans as well.
A few years back, our colleagues at the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency started hosting an annual Veterans Leadership Summit, in an effort to bring together leaders of and in veteran-serving organizations from the government, nonprofit, and private sectors, as an opportunity to learn from one another, network, and grow. It's been in Lansing, Traverse City, and Detroit. And now this spring, you can join leaders in the veteran space in Marquette on May 19-21, 2025 at Northern Michigan University, for the 2025 Michigan Veterans Leadership Summit. MVH will be in town as well, preparing to break ground on the new MVH D.J. Jacobetti.
We hope to see you there, eh?
