A Legacy of Generosity
Ten years ago, a special friendship was forged at MVH D.J. Jacobetti. Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association 35-1 (CVMA 35-1) began a tradition supporting Jacobetti veterans, creating a legacy of generosity that continues a decade later, and directly impacts the quality of life of our veterans. Every year, CVMA 35-1 raises funds for the MVHDJJ Charitable Support Fund, conducts a ride, and stops by the Home to present the check and visit with veterans of the Jacobetti.
This year, CVMA 35-1 raised and donated $10,000 to MVH D.J. Jacobetti, bringing their ten-year generosity total to more than $77,000+. It takes a village to serve those who've served us, and our gratitude for our friends at CVMA 35-1 can't be sufficiently expressed in words.
To our friends at CVMA 35-1: Thank you for your support of our mission, and our members.

Summer is filled with fun at MVH. August saw - amongst many other enjoyable activities - the annual Summer Bash and Car Show at MVH at Grand Rapids. Beautiful classic automobiles flooded into the Home's parking lot, as food trucks, dancing, and live music entertained veterans on a beautiful summer day. Indeed, broad smiles dotted the MVH landscape.
Walking through the parking lot and watching veterans smile and converse with classic car owners, seeing staff, family members, volunteers, and community dancing with MVH veterans, enjoying the music, and soaking up the summer sun, it was reflective of how community support and generosity makes Michigan Veteran Homes different and better for Michigan veterans.
MVH - alongside its communities of supporters - are changing veteran lives for the better.
At MVH, we don't think it's ever "too early" to talk about Veterans Day. Each of our three Homes have their own unique ways - in partnership with their community of supporters - of honoring America's veterans in November. One of those unique methods is the "Veterans Day 5" at MVH at Grand Rapids: a 1/2-mile walk/roll, a 5k, or a 5-mile run that starts and finishes at the MVHGR campus and concludes with a community pancake breakfast at the Veterans Home. Check out some of the photos from last year's Veterans Day 5.
On November 9th, 2024, the Veterans Day 5 event will again be held at MVH at Grand Rapids. Registrations are open, and the event is now accepting sponsorships. All proceeds from the event are deposited in the MVH at Grand Rapids Charitable Support Fund, and MVH is grateful for the support of Grand Rapids Event Management, who generously leads planning the event; Zero Day, who acts as the fiduciary; SpartanNash, who sponsors the community pancake breakfast; and myTeam Triumph, who coordinates Angels to push MVH members in chariots on the race (as pictured, above).
Our friends at Village Caregiving also recently signed up to support the event as a Mile Marker Sponsor. To register, sponsor, donate, or volunteer, visit the link below or contact us at DMVA-MVHgiving@michigan.gov.

The Veterans Day 5 is an event that honors our veterans, and connects the community with our members and our mission. We hope you can join us.
MVH at Chesterfield Township opened its doors in 2021 on the heels of a global pandemic that significantly impacted skilled nursing facilities like MVH. It was also the first State Veterans Home in Southeast Michigan. Today, MVH at Chesterfield Township serves nearly 130 veterans and spouses 24/7 with the care and quality of life they need, earned, and deserve. And with that 5-star quality care, comes incredible life enriching experiences offering 5-star quality of life.
August at MVH at Chesterfield Township saw - amongst many other activities - Detroit Tigers games, barbeques, picnics, demolition derby, Summer MVH Olympics, a fantasy football draft, and more. If you thought moving into a nursing home for veterans implied limitations on outings, enjoyment, and living life to the fullest....think again. Thanks to the selfless generosity of our donors, volunteers, and community supporters, MVH at Chesterfield Township does more for veterans who need nursing home-level care. If you're an individual or organization looking to make a difference in the lives of those who served, consider joining our mission with your time, talents, treasures, ties, and/or testimony. MVH at Chesterfield Township - with its community of supporters - is changing veteran lives for the better, every day.

Life is joy. Perhaps not all chapters of it, as some are more difficult than others. Though life, its presence, and the experience of participating in life with others is one we're fortunate to have. And. we're fortunate to share it with fellow non-humanlifeforms, too. Whenever animals visit our members at Michigan Veteran Homes, there seems to be a special connection of souls.
In early August, members of MVH D.J. Jacobetti in Marquette were fortunate to receive a visit from Hager's Hee Haw Farms, Bill Hager, and the Ol' Coots Veterans, who brought with them a trailer-load of miniature ponies. And in Grand Rapids, members were blessed by Bunnies-R-Us Rescue, who visited MVH at Grand Rapids with plentiful fuzziness and long ears.
There are lots of ways to make an impact in the lives of veterans. We're grateful for these groups of generous friends who shared some animal life - and joy - with our MVH veterans.
It's your heart of gold. Let us help polish it, by connecting with MVH on potentially optimal ways YOUR generosity can impact the lives of our veterans. Each of our Homes has a Volunteer & Donations Coordinator who works to put the blessings of philanthropy to work for our veterans' lives, and intimately understands each of our Home's needs and desires. While MVH always accepts monetary donations to the Homes' Charitable Support Fund, which funds quality of life initiatives and programming for MVH members, material donation needs differ from home to home, and from season to season. Connecting with the individual MVH facility's Volunteer & Donations Coordinator, you can best fit your heart of gold to the gap an MVH facility is seeking to fill, and allow us to harness your generosity to benefit MVH veterans!
Read more about giving to MVH - and find individual Home points of contact - at the link below. And, you can always reach us at DMVA-MVHgiving@michigan.gov. It's our community of supporters that makes us different - and better - for Michigan veterans.
Michigan Veteran Homes - Make a Gift
A lot of amazing people live at Michigan Veteran Homes. A lot of amazing people work here, too. Two of those amazing people were recognized last month. India Harris is a certified nursing assistant at MVH at Grand Rapids, and was the recipient of MVHGR's "Rising Flag Award." Meanwhile, up north of the bridge, MDS Nurse Bob Munoz was recognized by MVH D.J. Jacobetti with the "Beyond the Call of Duty Award." Both India and Bob are exceptional people, caring for exceptional people - and we're fortunate to have them serving veterans.
MVH and its veterans are fortunate - and grateful - to have remarkable people throughout its ranks. If you run into MVH team members out in your community, make sure you thank them for the vital work they do for our nation's veterans.
Donations to Michigan Veteran Homes are tax-deductible under 170(c) of the Internal Revenue Code.
