Join the CDC at 2 p.m. EST on Thursday, December 11 for a seasonal influenza update Clinician Outreach and Communication Activity (COCA) call on the Clinical Recommendations for Seasonal Influenza Prevention and Control for 2025-26.
Presenters will provide an overview of the burden of influenza disease and discuss recommendations for influenza vaccination, testing, and treatment for people of all ages for the 2025-2026 season.

The National Weather Service (NWS) released the three-month temperature and precipitation outlook for December, January and February. The majority of Michigan, with the exception of the southeast, has a 33-40% probability of below normal temperatures. Southeast Michigan has equal chances of above or below normal temperatures. The state has a 33-50% probability of above normal precipitation.
MDHHS has developed a list of resources health departments and tribes can use to prepare for future winter storm-related health impacts and cold-related illness.
As we know, fatality management during an emergency response is highly sensitive and often involves multiple agencies—such as hospitals, EMS, law enforcement, and coroners—some of which may have greater legal authority. Therefore, careful coordination is crucial to avoid jurisdictional conflicts. As a result, CDC has developed a PHEP Fatality Management tool with a decision-making tree that helps public health professionals evaluate the situation, consider partner roles, and determine appropriate involvement in compliance with Capability 5: Fatality Management outlined in Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Capabilities: National Standards for State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial Public Health.
DEPR has posted an updated course on MI-TRAIN: “Public Health Law Primer: Legal Foundations for Emergency Response.” The course ID is 1086544. This course is designed to give public health staff at the state and local levels a basic understanding of the legal authorities and responsibilities of MDHHS and local health departments as set out in the Michigan Public Health Code PA 368 of 1978, as amended (MCL 333.1101 et seq.).
This course also describes some of the non-pharmaceutical interventions in the Public Health Code that are available to public health agencies in Michigan to respond to crises and fulfill their responsibilities.
