Last week (October 13 and 14) we invited Local Health Departments to participate in the H5N1 Local Public Health Survey, which aims to understand your local health jurisdiction's preparedness, best practices, and challenges related to H5N1 (avian influenza). As a public health professional, your firsthand experience is essential for strengthening local and statewide capacity to detect, prevent, and respond to H5N1 outbreaks. Your insights will help identify effective strategies, resource needs, and opportunities for education, training, and collaboration.
This survey includes a combination of multiple-choice and open-ended questions. It will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. If you have any questions about this survey or how the information will be used, please contact Jessica Gould at gouldj3@michigan.gov or 517-285-0687.
Survey responses are due November 7, 2025.
DEPR has developed The EPC Desk Reference for EPCs and EP staff. This document was developed to be a resource for new and experienced EPCs and emergency preparedness staff to provide a ready reference to the varied programs, systems, resources, requirements, etc. that make up the public health emergency preparedness (PHEP) program in Michigan. This reference is designed to be a reference for topics an EPC needs to know but cannot possibly remember.
If you have any questions about the document, please contact Jim Koval.
For new EPCs we are piloting a new EPC onboarding guide. Please contact your regional POC (list at the bottom of this newsletter) if you haven't already received a copy to use.
Each LHD must designate a primary MVR administrator, one MVR backup administrator, and ensure their contact information is regularly updated through submission of quarterly contact forms.
Juvare launched a new MVR system platform on September 30. All designated MVR administrators and backups are required to complete MVR administrator training now that the new system has launched, and once every three years thereafter. In addition, all MVR administrators must participate in one MVR functional/educational drill per budget period. Drills are scheduled twice per year (October/November, February/March).
Starting in January the MVR Admin Volunteer Management Trainings and the MVR administrator trainings will be combined into a single course offered monthly. MVR administrators and their back-up only need to take one of these courses to satisfy work plan requirements.
Use the button below to see a one-pager for the dates of the upcoming trainings. If you have any questions concerning the above requirements, please contact Elizabeth Shepard or Stephanie Steele.
The Michigan Volunteer Registry is looking for behavioral health professionals to volunteer and make a difference in Michigan! Please share the attached 1-pager with your internal and external partners.

The workshop provided TRAIN Affiliate Consortium members and sub-administrators the opportunity to share TRAIN knowledge and best practices and learn more about the administrative features that are available.
