Applications are open through October 31 for the 2026 Project Public Health Ready (PPHR) cycle. PPHR is a nationally recognized, criteria-based training and recognition program developed by NACCHO in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It is designed to help local health departments (LHDs) develop core public health and emergency preparedness competencies. PPHR aims to fully integrate LHDs into the broader preparedness and response community.
You will need to go through Jeannie Byrne for the PPHR registration process to ensure vital PPHR connections with the NACCHO team and BEPESoC are coordinated to support your submission.
The PPHR team is sharing a blog series exploring program updates, sharing expert perspectives, and highlighting how PPHR can help strengthen your department’s preparedness.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Emergency Preparedness and Response (MDHHS/DEPR) and the Michigan State Police, Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division (MSP/EMHSD) have partnered since 2011 to provide a learning management system (LMS), MI-TRAIN, to offer emergency management courses to partners across disciplines. Beginning in fall 2025, MSP is moving to a new LMS, Cornerstone, for all its courses and conferences.
MDHHS/DEPR continues to support the MI-TRAIN system and users will maintain access to their training histories within the system. MDHHS/DEPR and other partners will continue to host classes and conferences on MI-TRAIN. No accounts will be manually deactivated during the MSP transition. If prerequisites for classes in Cornerstone need certificates currently stored in MI-TRAIN, it is the user’s responsibility to upload them into Cornerstone.
More on the transition of MSP/EMHSD to Cornerstone:
- MSP will begin the transition to Cornerstone on October 1, 2025. This applies to classes and conferences.
- Classes currently scheduled through November 15 will remain on MI-TRAIN.
- All classes after November 15 will be on Cornerstone.
- If you have already registered for a course after November 15, the goal is to transfer your registration information to the new system, but the capability of this is currently unknown.
- Tutorials on how to sign on, create your profile, and register for courses are being developed and will be shared as soon as they are available.
- The Michigan State Police will discontinue use of MI-TRAIN effective December 31, 2025.
After December 31, 2025, you will need to contact the MI-TRAIN Help Desk at mi-train@michigan.gov for any assistance with your account or support for MI-TRAIN. MDHHS and MSP will continue to support partners impacted by this transition and will share more information as it becomes available.
CDC published a respiratory illness season toolkit. Public health partners can use this toolkit to prepare and protect their communities from respiratory illnesses, like influenza (flu), COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). This toolkit provides essential resources and communication materials to assist public health partners in effectively engaging with the public, healthcare providers, and their partners before and during the respiratory illness season. It includes sample social media messages, graphics, videos, handouts, and other respiratory illness-related tools for clinicians and other public health partners.
