The Division of Emergency Preparedness and Response (DEPR) will resume statewide quarterly 800 MHz radio tests beginning in late September or early October of 2024. DEPR would like to ensure that local health departments, tribes, healthcare coalitions, and regional labs are able to locate their 800 MHz radio, ensure radios are in working condition, and that each organization has designated staff (and backups) to participate in statewide quarterly radio tests. A link to an online survey was shared in the September 6th PHEP Update. If your agency has not completed the survey, it is important that you complete the survey by September 24.
The MDHHS Division of Emergency Preparedness and Response (DEPR) is growing, and with that comes the need to streamline finance-related communications.
DEPR is excited to introduce Shiquita Holley who started with DEPR at the end of May and has been onboarding as our division Financial Analyst supporting Janis Tipton, our bureau Financial Specialist.
To streamline communication with Janis and Shiquita, DEPR has established a shared finance email box, DHHS-DEPR-Finance@michigan.gov. Please make sure to use this for all finance-related matters (questions, budget submissions and modifications, etc.) effective immediately. When sending an email, please start subject lines with either PHEP or PHEP-Tribal depending on whether you are from an LHD or a tribal nation. This will not only help DEPR stay organized but will allow for training opportunities along the way. Janis and Shiquita will be monitoring this email box, and you may hear from either of them when you submit something here.
This mailbox does not replace the MDHHS-BETP-DEPR-PHEP@michigan.gov email box. You should still use this and your regional points of contact for programmatic questions and reporting.
The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi (NHBP) is pleased to bring MGT-488 Pandemic Planning Emergency Management and Public Health Coordination training to our organization. We are offering this free, in-person course to members of NHBP Leadership and other community partners on September 24, 2024, at the Pine Creek Indian Reservation Government Center from 9:00 AM-5:00 PM. Space is limited. Please share with others who may benefit from this opportunity!
If you have not registered yet, please don’t forget to do so. This will be a unique opportunity to bring together partners in community.
About this training: This management level, instructor-led training will provide participants with an understanding of how emergency management and public health/medical agencies can coordinate during pandemics and other public health emergencies. The course will review the roles and responsibilities of state, local, federal, nongovernment, and private sector entities during pandemics. An overview of the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) will also be provided. The goal of the course is to provide participants ways to increase coordination between agencies so that they are more prepared during a public health emergency. By the end of this course, all participants will be able to fulfill the following learning objectives:
- Describe the roles and responsibilities of the State and Local Departments of Health during a Public Health Emergency.
- Identify the roles, capabilities, and avenues of coordination and sustainability with Healthcare Coalitions (HCC) in support of a Public Health Emergency.
- Analyze the National Disaster Medical System Capabilities.
- Examine federal and regional constructs available to coordinate during large-scale emergencies.
