Western Michigan University Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine has established an annual conference focusing on healthcare professional well-being promotion and suicide prevention. This symposium will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Kalamazoo and is open to all healthcare professionals at no charge. For those unable to attend in person, the morning and afternoon keynote presentations will be live streamed (requires registration). EMS credits will be available for those who attend in person. The Preparedness Lunch and Learn series will start on September 18, 2023, with a chemical preparedness topic. Following a chemical preparedness and response series, topics will continue to build knowledge for emergency managers in hospitals and other healthcare facilities as well as Healthcare Coalitions, Local Health Departments, tribes, and others.
Taking place at the Northern Center on Northern Michigan University’s (NMU) campus in Marquette from Monday, September 25 - Wednesday, September 27, 2023. This second annual event will bring together multiple state, federal, and civilian cybersecurity resources to connect with regional cybersecurity practitioners and decision makers. The schedule is tailored to allow for flexible participation across topics, including hands-on training and workshop activities. Multiple afternoon breakout sessions will allow for sector focused (K12 Tech, Critical Infrastructure, Small Business, Healthcare, Local Government) discussions and sessions each day.

On October 5, 2023, the MDHHS Bureau of Laboratories (BOL) will host a training titled, “Waived Testing Information Day.” This training is geared toward local health departments that do point of care testing; specifically, rapid HIV, Strep/covid/flu, pregnancy tests, and similar point-of-care tests. It will be hosted at the Bureau of Laboratories in Lansing; lunch will be provided. Continuing education contact hours are anticipated.
In partnership with the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), MDHHS Surveillance for Healthcare-Associated & Resistant Pathogens (SHARP) Unit is offering complimentary Long-Term Care Infection Preventionist (LTC IP) Essentials Trainings. Attendees will also receive a free one-year APIC membership; existing members will receive a one-year extension. This training provides the foundation of the infection preventionist (IP) role and the practice of being an effective IP in a long-term care setting, including creating and managing successful IPC programs and mitigating risk at your facility. This training also covers CMS-required topics. Both virtual and in-person sessions will be offered. Select your preferred format and dates. There is no cost to attend.

Region 3 has partnered up with CISA and MiHCC to host two healthcare focused cybersecurity courses. The Basic Cybersecurity Course is being held on October 24, 2023, and the Advanced Cybersecurity Course being held October 25, 2023. Both events will be held at the Horizons Conference Center in Saginaw, MI from 9AM to 4PM each day. The call for abstracts for the 2024 Preparedness Summit, to be held March 25-28, 2024, in Cleveland, Ohio, is officially open! This year’s theme, Public Health, Healthcare, and Emergency Management: Aligning to Address Cascading Challenges, will provide an opportunity for sectors to come together, align missions, and discover better ways to work as true partners to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow. The abstract submission period is open through September 15, 2023 (11:59 PM PT). Deadline extensions are not guaranteed.
The committee seeks sessions that: • Are evidence-based, • Highlight programs or model practices that have proven effective in building and sustaining public health and healthcare preparedness at the national, state, local, or tribal level; and • Demonstrate tools and resources that are replicable and scalable at the national, state, local, or tribal level.
The committee is particularly interested in sessions that illustrate: • Case studies from successful cross-sector collaboration • Highlight partnerships and/or communications strategies, • Tools to assist in sharing data and information.
The 2024 Prep Summit will be held March 25 – 28, 2024, in Cleveland, Ohio.
