Dear Immunization Partners,

Please share the following information with providers in your jurisdiction.

On July 24, 2023, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated and posted two new Vaccine Information Statements (VISs) to their website. The updated VISs include Multi-Vaccine (DTaP, Hib, Hepatitis B, PCV, and Polio) and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).

Providers should begin using the updated Michigan version of these VISs immediately.

  • Multi Pediatric Vaccines VIS (michigan.gov)
    • The vaccines included on this statement (DTaP, Hib, Hepatitis B, PCV, and Polio) are likely to be given at the same time during infancy and early childhood. This has been updated to include the use of PCV20 in the pediatric population. There are separate VISs for other vaccines that are also routinely recommended for young children (measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, rotavirus, influenza, and hepatitis A)
  • Respiratory Syncytial Virus Vaccine VIS (michigan.gov)
    • This VIS is to be used when administering RSV vaccine (either Arexvy-GSK or Abrysvo-Pfizer)

VIS Reminders:

  • In Michigan, it is important that vaccine recipients, their parents, or their legal representatives be given the Michigan versions of VISs because they include information about the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR). By state law in Michigan, parents must be informed about MCIR. VISs that are obtained from other sources (e.g., from the CDC or IAC websites) do not contain information about MCIR.
  • Translations - There is always a lag time before translations are published. Once Immunize.org posts translations, MDHHS will add the MCIR language onto the translations and post them on the MDHHS website as soon as possible.
