Stay Well Program Resources

1. Creative Coping: An art-based workshop for kids and parents
Wednesday evenings, 6:30 p.m. until February 16, 2022
It takes time for children to develop emotional intelligence — the ability to perceive, understand, and manage emotions. Parents can play a key role in this development by helping their child learn the words and feelings associated with various emotions. This series of six online workshops paves the way by involving family members in creative art projects centered around identity, self-awareness, and emotional expression.
Register for as many sessions as you like! All are free of charge. Click here to REGISTER.

2. Coping with Grief and Loss:
Wednesdays at noon from January 12 through February 16, 2022
Learning to live with grief and loss is a painful process—and while it may differ from one individual to another, it helps to understand the normal feelings we all experience. Each weekly workshop will focus on one aspect of the grieving process, and participants will engage in drawing, writing, mental exercises, and relaxation techniques to help them work through their grief.

3. Focus Group: Creating An Instagram and Facebook Live Youth Wellness Series February 10, 2022. This is a focus group for youth to attend who might be interested in learning more about wellness practices and coping strategies. During the focus group the moderators will do a quick check in around how they are currently feeling, offer a few techniques during the focus group and then we will request some feedback around what they might like to see more of as part of the social media series that will be launching later this month.

The group is open to any youth who are active on social media. I imagine this may be primarily teens however, our middle schoolers and even elementary aged youth are now active online. We will shape future content based on who is present during the focus group. Any youth who wishes to join this focus group should use the link https://bit.ly/3GtzTtF to join.

Public Health Prepared

The University of Michigan School of Public Health announces the launch of a new program: Public Health Prepared (PHP). PHP is the workforce development and public health practice branch of the broader Michigan Center for Infectious Disease Threats & Pandemic Preparedness (MCIDT) initiative housed at and funded by the University of Michigan.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about unprecedented changes to the way we live, work, and play. It has highlighted health disparities and inequities and brought public health to the forefront of mainstream conversation. The public health, health care, and academic research professional communities have demonstrated resilience, determination, innovation, and curiosity in their continued efforts to improve population health.

The goal of the program is to contribute to these ongoing efforts by offering training that advances strategic skills and promotes a feedback loop between research and practice. Training will address not only the COVID-19 pandemic, but other emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, communicable diseases, and outbreak investigations.
