Greetings Skilled Nursing Providers,

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has issued Provider Letter L 22-03 relative to COVID Relief (CR) Facility designation. In addition to extending the application window for facilities to designate to retain COVID-positive residents (CR Tier 1) and, with enhanced standards under special circumstances, to admit new COVID-positive residents (CR Tier 2), this letter provides additional guidance and clarification to facilities regarding the CR designation process, including:

1. Circumstances under which FY21 CR status may be retained through the FY22 application process

2. Extension of application period to February 28, 2022, which effectively extends the period to care for COVID-positive residents in place through the application process, given certain criteria

3. Process for designated facilities to adapt the size, layout, and conditions of designated areas through Capacity Change Request

ALL Skilled Nursing Facilities* that have not previously applied for CR Facility designation are encouraged to apply.  The MDHHS Infection Prevention Resource and Assessment Team (IPRAT) is available to support facilities with the application process and to promote adequate infection prevention practices.  

*Facilities that have a current CRC status are not required to submit a COVID-Relief Facility application

Completed applications will be accepted through February 28, 2022. Following the close of the application window, nursing facilities that have not submitted a FY22 application will be required to transfer any COVID-positive residents to an alternate location, including a CRC or CR Tier 2 facility.
