Good Morning Immunization Partners,
Please review the following COVID-19 vaccine order updates and Holiday Shipping Schedule. If you need additional vaccine for clinics scheduled around the holidays, begin planning now and review the Holiday Shipping information below.
GENERAL UPDATES/REMINDERS
- Redistribution reminder: Don’t forget the diluent and associated supplies!
- CDC’s redistribution tool for ancillary supplies (Ancillary Redistribution Gadget for Healthcare Workers, or A.R.G.H.) can assist. Utilize this excel tool to help assure all the syringes, needles, supplies, and diluent needed for vaccine administration move with vaccine during redistribution.
PFIZER
- Note regarding Pediatric Pfizer for Ages 5 Through 11 Years (ORANGE CAP)
- Please keep a close watch on the expiration dates of pediatric vaccine and order responsibly to reduce the amount of inventory expiring in the field in January and February.
-
Upcoming: Transition to Pfizer Tris-sucrose Vaccine Formulation (Comirnaty) (GRAY CAP)
- May be stored at refrigerated temperatures of 2°C - 8°C (36°F - 46°F) for up to 10 weeks OR at ultra-cold temperatures of -90°C to -60°C (-130°F to -76°F) for up to 6 months.
- Beginning in mid-December, distributors will begin the transition to the Pfizer fully licensed vaccine formulation (Comirnaty) for ages 12+. You will receive additional information for when this will be available for order. Prior to ordering, you are expected to first use up the purple cap product in the field. CDC will provide additional information on this criteria, but in anticipation of this transition, we would like to share this information for awareness.
- This formulation will have a gray vial cap and allow for smaller pack ordering and easier use.
- The minimum order size is expected to be 300 doses and the product does not require diluent.
- The 6-dose vial will have the same dose volume as the current purple cap (0.3mL)
- Temperature storage requirements are as follows (refrigerator or ultra-cold):
- Again, this product is not currently available for ordering and more information is to come.
- See comparison below with the gray-cap product included.

- The Pfizer training sessions posted below will include updated information on the new Pfizer product as we move through the transition.
