Good Morning Immunization Partners,
To prepare for the potential Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of a Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children 5 through 11 years, CDC and MDHHS are implementing a “pre-order” launch period begins today, October 20th. This will ensure that distribution of this 5-11 formulation is equitable, timely, and efficient. The pre-order launch will consist of a bolus amount of vaccine which will be available in 3 “waves” of pre-orders between October 20th to 26th. Each wave lasts approximately 48 hours. Please take advantage of this pre-order timeframe to ensure deliveries of this product occur as soon as possible following the EUA issuance if applicable (see delivery timeframes in attached document). This first wave is live NOW and closes on October 22nd. All orders, including pre-orders, will be placed in MCIR using the E-Order functionality for Outbreak orders. Once a wave ends OR a pre-order cap has been met, the product will be turned off and not available for E-ordering. It will then be turned back on once the next wave begins. If there is un-used vaccine in a wave, it will roll over to the next.
Please review the attached guidance on ordering as well as a document with product information to advise on how this product is expected to be packaged, shipped, administered, etc. Note that the product assumptions document is PRELIMINARY information and subject to change upon authorization. CDC has also developed a very helpful Pfizer product comparison chart to review distinct differences among the products.
Important note when ordering: Please pay attention to product descriptions to differentiate from the adult/adolescent product. This new product for ages 5-11 years has an NDC of 59267-1055-04, a dosage of 10mcg and is displayed as follows:

- It also has the order QTY as 300-dose minimum (order increments of 300). Following the pre-order launch, this will be updated to 100-dose order minimums and increments.
Important note regarding FQHCs and RHCs: These entities may utilize our state allocation and E-Ordering during the pre-order period. Please review these E-Order requests appropriately as they are an important partner in ensuring equitable access of this vaccine to children. AFTER pre-orders, they will have access to place orders through their HRSA ordering method. Therefore, E-Order requests from these sites should not be excessive. We are aware some LHDs partner with FQHCs for redistribution of vaccine (along with supporting many other providers needing smaller quantities), and we appreciate the continued efforts in this.
ORDERING PAUSE for Adult/Adolescent Pfizer Product: In order to maximize delivery of pediatric doses, during this launch, ordering of ADULT/ADOLESCENT Pfizer (product for 12 years+) will be paused at 2pm on Thursday October 29th. This refers to the time when the order needs to be at the MDHHS level. Ordering of this product will restart on Thursday November 4th.
- This applies to ALL COVID-19 vaccine providers, not just sites requesting the new product.
Guidance, a webinar, and tip sheets are available to instruct on the E-Ordering Process for COVID-19 Vaccine (www.Michigan.gov/COVIDVaccineProvider).
