Be Kind to Your Mind Support Group

The “Be Kind to your Mind” support group provides a safe online forum for people to share their stories, hear from others, and discover strategies for dealing with uncertain times. In this group session, the goal is to help each other persevere as we go through challenges related to the pandemic. A Stay Well counselor moderates each session, standing by to listen and help participants process their emotions.

The group meets on Zoom every Monday at 7 p.m. Sessions last one hour. Participants are asked to abide by a set of ground rules ensuring courtesy and respect for others. Click here to REGISTER and receive instructions about connecting. To learn more about this and other Stay Well services, visit Michigan.gov/StayWell.

COVID-19 School Test Toolkit From CDC

School-based COVID-19 testing programs help keep children in school. Additionally, these programs protect the health of students, families, educators, and the community—especially those who are not fully vaccinated or are otherwise at risk of severe illness from COVID-19—and most importantly, serve as an early warning system to help stop an outbreak before it starts. To help support schools who are implementing regular school testing programs, CDC has developed a suite of free resources.

2022 Preparedness Summit – Call for Abstracts

The abstract submission period is open through October 20, 2021 (11:59 PM PT). Learn more about the abstract submission categories, preview the application, and submit your abstract!

CDC and AmeriCorps Seek Proposals to Build a New Generation of Public Health Leaders

AmeriCorps, in a new partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has launched Public Health AmeriCorps. The program will support the recruitment, training, and development of a new generation of public health leaders who will be ready to respond to the nation’s public health needs.
The program, which is supported by a $400 million investment from the American Rescue Plan Act, is anticipated to fund up to 5,000 AmeriCorps positions over the next five years.

AmeriCorps has released a Notice of Federal Funding Availability. The competition is open to nonprofit, faith-based and community-based organizations; higher-education institutions; state, local and territorial government entities, such as cities or counties; and Indian Tribes. New organizations are encouraged to apply for these grants.

The deadline for applications is Monday, Nov. 8, 2021 at 5:00 pm ET.

REMINDER: PHEP Partners Call on 2nd Thursdays at 1:30 pm ET

The next PHEP Partners call for LHD EPCs and tribal health partners is Thursday, October 14, 2021. These calls occur the 2nd Thursday of every month at 1:30 pm ET. Attendance continues to be required per the work plan. If you cannot attend a particular call, reach out to your point of contact in advance.

These meetings/calls are on Microsoft Teams. An Outlook appointment was sent to all EPCs earlier in the budget period. If you do not have the appointment series on your calendar, contact Jim Koval and he will send you the meeting appointment.

Beginning with the October meeting, DEPR will implement a new agenda format. This format will allow for the collection of anonymous comments/feedback after each agenda item is discussed and before the next agenda item is brought up. The agenda for the October 14 meeting will be in the PHEP Update of October 7.
